Forgive me for lumping social and tech together, but to be quite honest, most companies started by women in the last decade has a social-good benefit to it. My favorite is the Honest Company by Jessica Alba, and of course many others. PS, I am launching a social-good company in the Fall, stay tuned.
Here are some conferences I will be attending this year. Beware, I did not purchase tickets to some of these yet, but they are on my list of conferences to go to. Before you assume that I am a “conference-ho” or whatever it is Mark Suster calls those kind of people, hear me out. I rarely go to conferences unless it is paid for by my own company. When I do attend conferences (which unfortunately are located in prime locations such as NYC, SF, LV), I look out for deals, I sign up to volunteer, and even share rooms with friends, or use AirBnB for cheaper B&B. Back to why I am going to these conferences. I decided since we’ll be launching our start-up soon, I needed to get out there more and meet more people in the social innovation field. This is the only time I have to do that before the start-up kicks into full gear, and to be frank, I kind of want to do it now before I run out of cash. Yes, we are bootstrapping all the way, for now at least.
Women 2.0: I missed the San Francisco event and ended up flying to San Francisco for Blogher Entrepreneurs Conference two weeks later. This time, I will be attending with my sister. I am looking forward to meeting tech-minded women in the Bay Area as well as women flying in from all over the world. Here are some notable female founders that have gone through Women 2.0 Pitch Conference. We are applying to the Pitch Contest as well. Crossing fingers.
Focus 100: I didn’t hear about this conference until very recently. I am eager to meet all the top-line investors that are slated to attend. I am also even more interested in networking and meeting like-minded women in the digital world.
SOCAP13: This is one of my very favorite conference. It’s not just that the name suggests that I get to learn more about Capital, but because this conference attracts changemakers from everywhere in the world and engages them for four-days to ponder and discuss the impact of social enterprise in today’s world.
Social Good Summit: This conference by Mashables is truly remarkable. I have heard nothing but great things and the line-up of changemakers that are influential in developing and emerging economies is enormous! I am looking forward to meeting every single one of them and attending the various sessions.
PS: Let me know if you will be attending any of these events. My email is firstname.lastname@example.org!
