Why Some Women Get Ahead Faster

by ThinkFeminist on July 12, 2012

I have noticed a trend among women that get ahead faster and those that stay in thesame role for a lifetime or get stuck doing the same task. Women who get ahead faster are:

:: Engaged, they venture outside of their comfort zone and take bold steps to meet higher ups to discuss opportunities and gaps in their work process

:: Energetic, they understand the need for a propellant, hence they take initiative even when they know it will suck up their lunch time or shrink their hour of sleep

:: Strategic, they are in the right place at the right time. They understand the flow of information and they ensure that they are at the center of conversations strategic to their development

:: Confident, they talked big, and took small steps to achieve their goals. They accepted big challenges and solved them through a network of do-ers

:: Open and gracious, they accepted feedback and find ways to improve their limitations

:: Optimistic, they never took no for an answer, never quit, instead they showed up and took charge even when things aren’t going too well

:: Not Overwhelmed, they find ways to outsource to free up time for important events such as family time, dinners, school plays and important meetings

What else have you done to get ahead?

Love this list – I especially love ‘getting out of your comfort zone’ – so important..
Asking for what you want is another good way to get ahead. Many are afraid to simply ask for what they need from others.

I agree Denise. I know that even when it was uncomfortable, I have asked for things and I got what I wanted most of the time.

Really excellent post today, Blessing. Simple and to the point. I would add to this, “Resilient” – able to bounce back and learn from failures.

Thanks Portia. Resilience is definitely key as well as showing restraint.

I’m thinking “not afraid of failure” would be good, too! Meaning you take smart, calculated risks as well.

You are right, there must be a right dose of passion for any of these to kick in, thanks for your input.
